  John Godwin
Duck Commander

FLYWAY
What was the first duck you ever shot, where did you shoot it, and what kind of gun did you shoot it with?

GODWIN
The first duck that I shot was a mallard hen. I shot her south of Monroe, LA with a Remington 870 my dad gave me on my 12th birthday.

FLYWAY
What is one duck you haven't shot, but really want to?

GODWIN
I don't really have a duck I just want to shoot. I want to shoot the ones that I've fooled enough to make them think its real.

FLYWAY
What is your favorite duck to hunt, and why?

GODWIN
The mallard is my favorite to hunt because he's the slickest, you have to have everything just right to get him.

FLYWAY
What is your greatest hunting memory? Do you have one that stands out above the rest?

GODWIN
My best memory was me and Jay Stone hunting a green seed Cypress brake. We got out in the middle on top of a beaver hut. We pulled logs out of it and made a blind. It was right in the middle of a round hole and the ducks helicoptered straight down into the hole, right in our lap. We weren't there long!

FLYWAY
If you could go on a dream hunt with any 3 people, alive or deceased, who would they be, where would you go, and what would you be hunting for?

GODWIN
If I could go on a dream hunt with 3 people, it would be my dad of course and 2 wounded warriors. We would go on a timber hunt for ducks.

FLYWAY
How did you get the nickname "Wildcat"?

GODWIN
As you know we are always quoting movie lines. Wildcat came from Tombstone when Johnny Tyer (Medcalf) came out in the street to shoot Wyatt Earp. Doc said Johnny Tyler where you going with that shotgun. Phil just replaced "Medcalf" with "Wildcat".  .

FLYWAY
How time consuming is it being the decoy technician for Duck Commander, and how much thought and preperation do you put in for each hunt?

GODWIN
Being a decoy tech isn't that time consuming. Putting the weights on is pretty quick with the Rigem Right system. We watch for wind direction to know how to put the decoys out. Which side we place them depends on wind direction. The type of terrain determines on how many we put out.

FLYWAY
What is your favorite gun to waterfowl hunt with?

GODWIN
My favorite shotgun us the SBE II  26" barrel.

FLYWAY
Do you have a favorite duck call?

GODWIN
My favorite duck call is the Sarge.

FLYWAY
You raced motorcross and spent years riding bulls, what was the worst injury you ever suffered doing that, and have you ever had a scary or dangerous experience while hunting?

GODWIN
I broke my leg racing motocross and got stepped on bull riding and broke some ribs. The scariest thing that happened to me hunting was I got in some quick sand on the Rio Grande.

FLYWAY
Have you ever hunted or visited Minnesota? If so, where?

GODWIN
I've never hunted Minnesota.

FLYWAY
Do you have a favorite "kill", or one you are most proudest of?

GODWIN
My favorite kill happened last year, It is the first scene on Duckmen.

FLYWAY
In your opinion, what is the greatest thing about being involved with Duck Commander?

GODWIN
The best thing about being involved with Duck Commander is the family atmosphere. Not just blood kin but kin through Jesus Christ. It makes for a stress free work place. The manditory hunt everyday of the season isn't bad either.

FLYWAY
Besides your gun, ammo, calls, and license, what are 2 or 3 things that you NEVER hunt without?

GODWIN
The things I won't hunt without besides gun, ammo, calls and license is gloves, facepaint and a saw.

FLYWAY
Have you ever doubled or tripled? If yes, details!

GODWIN
I have doubled a time or two on teal. They come in bunched up so its always a possibility with teal.
